Prime Video’s Other Remake of The Office Gets Renewed for Season 2

Prime Video’s latest international take on a beloved workplace comedy is officially coming back for more. The show debuted last month and quickly became one of the platform’s most-watched titles.

The Office’s La Oficina remake renewed for Season 2 by Amazon MGM Studios

Prime Video has officially renewed La Oficina, the Mexican adaptation of The Office, for a second season, per Variety. The renewal comes less than a month after the show’s March 13 debut on the platform.

Amazon MGM Studios head of local originals Javiera Balmaceda credited the show’s rapid audience growth as the driving force behind the decision. “La Oficina really broke through in Mexico in a way that felt immediate and sustained,” she said. “It quickly became our most-watched title on Prime Video locally.”

Gaz Alazraki returns as director and executive producer, with Season 2 filming again in the State of Mexico. Balmaceda confirmed writers are already “building on what resonated most from the first season – leaning even further into the characters and the kind of workplace humor audiences really responded to.”

Showrunner Marcos Bucay teased what viewers can expect from the returning season. “Everything gets stranger, and somehow more relatable,” he said. “We expand the world, answer the chaos we left behind, and introduce new characters who stir things up.” Bucay also confirmed the season will include “unexpected office romances, a French soap conglomerate, and maybe even a horse in the office.”

Alazraki attributed the show’s success to its distinctly Latin American setting. “Latin American offices have a different brand of chaos given the amount of family companies and lack of legal enforcement,” he said. He added that Amazon “gave us free rein to go as far as we wanted and created a new brand of the show you don’t get to see from Anglo countries.”

La Oficina joins The Office adaptations from the U.S., France, Chile, Poland, and Australia. Amazon MGM Studios has not yet announced a premiere date for Season 2.
