Before The Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson had some experience in the world of fantasy. In the early ‘90s, the director gave Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey their feature film debut in Heavenly Creatures, a film about two teen girls who brutally killed one of their mothers. It was a true story and was populated with fantastical elements borne from the minds of the girls. This would be a precursor to The Lord of the Rings, but the filmmaker didn’t stop there. One of his most beautiful films came out in 2009, starring the up-and-coming Saoirse Ronan.
