Something exciting is brewing in the suburbs, and fans of Peacock’s breakout comedy hit have reason to celebrate. The streamer just gave the green light for more mystery, mayhem, and cul-de-sac chaos from one of its most-watched original series.
The Burbs renewed for Season 2 at Peacock
Peacock has renewed The Burbs starring Keke Palmer for Season 2, according to Variety. The suburban mystery comedy series, inspired by the 1989 horror-comedy film, originally debuted on the streamer on Feb. 8. The renewal comes roughly two months after its high-profile Super Bowl Sunday launch.
The series has generated more than 1.7 billion viewing minutes on the domestic platform since its premiere. All eight episodes dropped on Peacock right after the Super Bowl, giving it the highest Day 1 for a Peacock original ever. The Burbs also appeared on Nielsen’s U.S. Originals Top 10 for four consecutive weeks, peaking at No. 2.
“We’re so thrilled that audiences loved season one of The Burbs, and are going to get to spend more time in Hinkley Hills with Keke and the rest of this incredible cast,” said Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Content for NBC and Peacock. She added congratulations to writers, producers, and crew who updated the original film.
Palmer and Jack Whitehall play a young couple who reluctantly move to the husband’s childhood home. A new neighbor arrives across the street, unearthing old secrets and deadly threats in their quiet neighborhood. Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, Mark Proksch, and Kapil Talwalkar also star in the series.
Celeste Hughey created the show and wrote and executive produced Season 1 alongside Rachel Shukert. Palmer also served as an executive producer on the series. Seth MacFarlane, Erica Huggins, and Aimee Carlson executive produced for Fuzzy Door.
Brian Grazer, Kristen Zolner, and Natalie Berkus executive produced for Imagine Entertainment. Nzingha Stewart directed and executive produced, while Dana Olsen served as co-executive producer. UCP is the studio behind the series, which has sold to more than 100 territories.
