While the HBO high fantasy series Game of Thronesdidn't kickstart the prestige fantasy genre, there is no question that it certainly redefined it. For nearly a decade, fantasy fans were glued to the TV as the Iron Throne dominated pop culture, with its blend of political intrigue and high stakes mixed in a world that felt truly untouchable. But once the controversial final episode aired, and fantasy gurus flocked to see what could fill the time that was occupied by Westeros for eight seasons, it quickly became apparent that the high fantasy genre was much wider and filled with better shows.
