Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is still alive, roughly a century later, because it understands the full emotional contract of animation and storytelling. It gives you beauty, terror, innocence, jealousy, comedy, suspense, and that old storybook feeling that something gentle can still be in real danger. Animation-wise, the Queen is memorable because her vanity has heat to it, because the transformation into the old hag feels like the movie stepping deeper into a nightmare, and because Snow White’s sweetness gives that darkness something worth threatening.
