Director Sergio Leone helped define one of the most recognizable sub-genres of Western cinema, one that has greatly influenced Quentin Tarantino. His magnum opus, the Dollars Trilogy, was released between 1964 and 1966. He was prepared to retire from making Westerns after the monumental series, but was lured back into the game when Paramount and Henry Fonda came calling with Once Upon a Time in the West. The landmark film, which was released in 1968, featured two more Italian stalwarts as part of the core creative team, Dario Argento and Bernardo Bertolucci, who were credited with having conceived the story.
