Earlier today, a leaker claimed that Sony is launching a new version of the PS5 Slim Digital edition console, which would include a smaller SSD. Unsurprisingly, PlayStation players are not very happy about the new model.

Players are not happy about the PS5 Digital console changes

According to the leak, the PS5 Slim Digital edition console will reduce its storage from 1TB to 825GB in the revised CFI-210 model, which is planned to be sold in Europe. Despite the SSD reduction, the €499 price tag will remain, which is where the criticism lies. Players are not too thrilled to potentially pay the same for less, especially as Sony increases prices of the consoles around the world.

In a thread from the PS5 subreddit, PS5 players voice their concerns about the leaked console.

“Never would imagine console deals getting worse the older it gets,” says user MediocreSumo. “And that’s a time where I am now able to get consoles day one, it’s like I’m dodging gaming CEO bullets.”

“Sony is reducing the amount of face buttons on the Dualsense from 4 to 2 and the number of sticks from 2 to 1 with its upcoming revision,” jokes user AcxdBxmb. “The price will remain the same.”

“Shrinkflation even hitting consoles now,” says user Scotsmania.

PS5 price hikes have been implemented for a while now. Just last month, those hikes finally hit the U.S. as PS5 prices increased by $50 across the board. This only impacted consoles, as accessories and other devices, such as the PS Portal and DualSense controllers, have remained the same price.

The price of PS5 consoles are not just being criticized by the community. Capcom President Haruhiro Tsujimoto recently stated that the high price barrier does potentially impact sales of its new games, like the recently released Monster Hunter Wilds.
