Filmmaker Osgood Perkins is working on a new feature set within the same universe as his mystery horror thriller “Longlegs”.

Skydance-owned Paramount Pictures has picked up the rights to the new project, taking over from original distributor NEON, whose clever marketing campaign turned the 2024 title into a $128 million worldwide hit on a budget of less than $10 million.

Maika Monroe starred in the original as an FBI agent, with an aptitude for clairvoyance, who investigates a series of murder-suicides in Oregon that are connected to a serial killer nicknamed Longlegs.

A slathered in make-up Nicolas Cage played Longlegs, who only had limited screen time. The character’s face was kept hidden in marketing materials prior to release.

Details of the follow-up are being kept hidden, other than this not being a direct sequel, but rather something “set in the Longlegs universe”. The scope of the project is said to be big enough that Neon had to step aside which let Paramount swoop in.

Perkins has written and will direct as well as produce the film, while Cage is returning as star and producer. Also producing are Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Chris Ferguson, and Dave Caplan.
