It’s been a strong start to the year for Netflix, the streaming giant that kicked things off with one of the first standout crime thrillers of 2026 in The Rip. The movie stars Matt Damon alongside his longtime collaborator Ben Affleck, and it stayed at the top of the streaming charts for weeks before eventually being knocked off by newer releases. More recently, Netflix made a push into sci-fi with its latest title, War Machine. Led by Reacher star Alan Ritchson, along with co-stars Dennis Quaid and Esai Morales, War Machine has now surpassed The Rip to become Netflix’s biggest movie of the year so far. Ritchson and director Patrick Hughes have both mentioned that discussions about a sequel have taken place, though it will probably be a few years before it arrives on the platform.
