Movie, which was released to record-breaking success in 2023. Based on the landmark video game property, The Super Mario Bros. Movie featured the voice talents of Chris Pratt and grossed $1.3 billion worldwide. This is only marginally less than the $1.4 billion that Barbie pulled that same year, and around $400 million more than Oppenheimer's final haul. What made the film's success all the sweeter was that Universal found a new franchise to rely on alongside the Despicable Me series, and that it cost roughly half of what Pixar usually spends on its tent poles.
