Netflix viewers can’t get enough as the second season of Tyler Perry’s dark drama series Beauty in Black finally drops.
The Chicago-based series follows Kimmie, a woman who was ‘kicked out as a teen and trafficked into sex work’.
‘Determined to escape, escaping Chicago’s seedy underworld means risking it all,’ the synopsis continues. When her world collides with wealthy business owner Mallory, both of their lives take a turn they could never have predicted.
Starring Taylor Polidore Williams and Crystal Stewart, the steamy series has proved a huge success, easily hitting number one in the TV charts just days after releasing all ten episodes of season two part one.
The gore-filled show has received widespread praise from fans since it first aired in October 2024, where it became the fourth-most-watched series in its first four days – eventually hitting number one with 8.7 million viewers.

‘I’m not one for violent shows, give me a good romance to cuddle up to. But I started this show… and I watched all of season 1 in one day. It was addicting,’ My P wrote on Rotten Tomatoes – where the show is rated 61%.

‘This show has a unique plot, great cast, and is binge-worthy. Waiting and curious about what more seasons would look like,’ Frances S praised.
‘Beauty in Black is by far the best show that Tyler has ever done. The suspense, drama, and the tenacity of the characters he’s written is amazing.
‘Yes, there are flaws here and there but the show makes up for it with the craziness and the salacious binge worthiness of it,’ Jack H reflected.
‘Great first season, the acting was suspenseful and the ending had me biting my nails! Absolutely worth a watch!!’ Jayde W said at the time.

Over on Google Reviews, Stella Nova shared: ‘I absolutely loved this series! It kept me on the edge of my seat because it was very riveting from scene to scene.’
‘Tyler Perry nailed it by blending entertainment with suspense, sex, and drama just delivering a show that’s worth your time,’ Mirsada Velic echoed.
It’s not all be glowing reviews though, with the Guardian critic calling the first season a ‘lurid mess’ that is ‘proudly obscene and deliberately pornographic’.
Ready, Steady Cut, called it ‘woefully half-hearted’ with a ‘ridiculous’ plot, while Decieder called the main character, Kimmie, ‘decidedly one note’.
Not that this seems to have deterred loyal viewers from tuning back in for another helping.
Speaking about what to expect in the fresh episodes, Tyler told Tudum: ‘Kimmie exemplifies the spirit of never underestimating the underdog, and I can’t wait for fans to continue to see her story unfold. If you thought season one was a wild ride, you’re not ready for season two.’
Beauty in Black is available to stream on Netflix. There is currently no release date for season two part two.
