Natalie Portman recently sat down with Collider to talk about her role in the English dub of filmmaker Ugo Bienvenu’s upcoming animated feature debut Arco, and while talking about working on an animated film and the history of critically acclaimed animated films, Portman casually mentioned that her favorite movie from filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki and his legendary Studio Ghibli animation house is 2001’s Spirited Away. That’s not exactly a scorching hot take, because Spirited Away is a masterpiece and earned Miyazaki an Academy Award (his first of two, the second being for The Boy and the Heron), but that doesn’t mean it’s the “safe” answer. By comparison, Bienvenu declined to even name one, which Portman suggested was the “ultra fan” response, but come on. Everybody has a favorite Miyazaki movie.
