Warner Bros. has shared a brand new Mortal Kombat II video for New Line Cinema’s forthcoming action fantasy sequel to the 2021 adaptation of the popular video game series. The movie is slated to hit the theaters on May 15, 2026.

What is shown in the Mortal Kombat II video?

Shared on X, the behind-the-scenes featurette shows the main cast, including Karl Urban, Hiroyuki Sanada, Lewis Tan, Martyn Ford, and Adeline Rudolph, discussing the sequel’s next-level action, epic story, and bigger scale. They also teased how well the movie will execute the characters’ famous fatality sequences. In addition, Sanada also revealed what it was like to see Urban embody the role of Johnny Cage during the movie’s production.

“From New Line Cinema comes the latest high-stakes installment in the blockbuster video game franchise in all its brutal glory, Mortal Kombat II,” reads the synopsis. “This time, the fan favorite champions—now joined by Johnny Cage himself—are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds-barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.”

Mortal Kombat 2 is directed by Simon McQuoid from a screenplay written by Jeremy Slater. The sequel will feature the return of Sanada as Scorpion, Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, and Max Huang as Kung Lao. Joining them are several new characters in the form of Urban as Johnny Cage, Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Ford as Emperor Shao Kahn, Damon Herriman as Netherrealm demon Quan Chi, Desmond Chiam as Edenian King Jerrod, and Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel.
