What happens in the final Michael trailer?

“This is what I was put on Earth to do,” Michael says in the trailer. The trailer features several performances by the King of Pop, including one with the Jackson Five and one with the iconic red jacket from the Thriller video.

“The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world,” the synopsis reads. “Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. This is where his story begins.”

Lionsgate also released a clip from the movie featuring a legendary performance of Billie Jean.

Besides Jaafar Jackson, Michael stars Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Juliano Valdi as young Michael, KeiLyn Durrel Jones as Bill Bray, Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe, Miles Teller as John Branca, and Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson.

Antoine Fuqua directs Michael from a script by John Logan. Branca, Graham King, and John McClain are the producers.

Michael underwent a lengthy production process. Lionsgate considered splitting the story into two movies, but eventually opted for one. A sequel could still happen if Michael performs well financially.

The original third act of the film addressed the child molestation accusations against Jackson. However, a settlement clause involving an accuser forced the filmmakers to remove the scenes referencing those allegations.

The entire third act had to be reshot, which cost about $10–$15 million. The movie now ends with Michael on the Bad Tour, as he enters a new phase of stardom.

Michael opens in theaters on April 24, 2026. Tickets are now on sale. Fans can also see a special presentation of Michael on April 22 in early access screenings in premium formats, including IMAX and Dolby.
