Meryl Streep & Oscar Winner Unite for New Netflix TV Show Based on Hit Book

Academy Award winner Meryl Streep has finally found her next major TV project as the lead, following a recurring appearance on Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.

Per Deadline, Streep has signed on for the leading role in Netflix‘s upcoming limited series adaptation of The Corrections, based on Jonathan Franzen’s award-winning 2001 novel. This marks The Devil Wears Prada star’s third miniseries as the lead, following her Emmy-winning performances in 1978’s NBC show Holocaust and 2003’s HBO show Angels in America.

What do we know about Meryl Streep’s Netflix show?

“The Corrections is a sharply comic portrait of a Midwestern family whose three unmoored adult siblings desperately resist their mother’s wish for one last Christmas together — each undone by the delusional ambitions that were supposed to save them from becoming their parents,” reads the synopsis.

In the Netflix adaptation, Streep is set to portray the family matriarch, Enid, who’s trying to bring her kids together for what could be their potential final Christmas as a family. The miniseries will be directed by Oscar winner Cord Jefferson, with Franzen writing the screenplay. In addition to leading the cast, Streep is also serving as an executive producer alongside Franzen, Mark Roybal, Paul Lee, and Nicole Clemens. It is a production by Paramount Television Studios.

Before Netflix picked up the show, a TV adaptation was first set up at HBO in 2021, with Noah Baumbach, Franzen, and Scott Rudin attached to the project. The pilot originally starred Ewan McGregor, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Greta Gerwig. Despite its all-star cast, the network decided not to move forward with the show.
