She said, “Amazing how it stays with you. I even told my mother that [Streep] was my favorite mother, because Meryl Streep was always nice to me and playing with me.” Lawn also spoke about their connection on set and how it shaped the film. She said that the bond helped create the emotional scenes, especially the difficult ones.

She said, “I think if she wasn’t able to build that bond with me, there’s no way we would ever have had that kind of reaction on set.” That’s when Streep recognized her. The child who played her daughter, Eva Zawistowska, in the 1982 drama film Sophie’s Choice.

Her reaction changed instantly as she looked surprised. Then Streep got emotional, and she asked, “That’s the child?” When it was confirmed, she responded, “Oh my God, that’s amazing.”

Streep thanked the team for the message and called it a gift, saying, “Well that’s amazing. That’s very beautiful, thank you for that. What a gift. Journalists never give me gifts.”
