Curious about what really happened at the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 4?
“Gloves Off” ends with Bullseye finally making his move, a charity boxing match turned bloodbath, and the one person keeping Wilson Fisk human is left bleeding in the ring. With her survival unconfirmed and Fisk already coming apart at the seams, Hell’s Kitchen may have just lost its last line of defence.
Here is Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 4’s ending explained, covering Vanessa’s fate and an unchained Kingpin’s next move.
Is Vanessa really dead in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 4?
Vanessa Fisk’s fate remains unconfirmed at the end of “Gloves Off,” the fourth episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, but things look extremely dire.
Bullseye arrives at Kingpin’s charity boxing match at Fogwell’s Gym, targeting Vanessa as revenge for manipulating him and ordering Foggy Nelson’s murder in Season 1. Wilson Fisk had attempted to keep his wife safe by sending her out of town to meet Governor Marge McCaffrey, but Vanessa returns to the gym anyway.
During the chaos of Bullseye’s attack, Vanessa shoots Bullseye in the stomach. Fisk then shatters Bullseye’s thrown glass souvenir mid-air with his championship belt, while Daredevil tackles Bullseye through a window to the street below. However, a shard from the shattered collectible pierces Vanessa’s temple, and she collapses, bleeding in the ring as Fisk watches helplessly.
But the episode ends without confirming her death. The final shot shows Vanessa still blinking and breathing, leaving her survival technically possible. If she does survive, lasting consequences are likely. A head injury this severe could produce significant personality changes or amnesia, which would mirror her comic book origin, where Vanessa was an amnesiac when she and Wilson first met.
Vincent D’Onofrio, who has played Fisk since the original 2015 Netflix series, appeared to confirm the worst in a Screen Rant interview, stating, “The repercussions of her death and what it’s done to him begins the third season.” Executive producer Sana Amanat, however, complicated that reading with a pointed: “Or is it?”
Showrunner Dario Scardapane addressed Fisk’s changed state directly, saying, “There’s no checks and balances now. What humanized this lonely, scary man, at least in one way isn’t there anymore. So all bets are off.” D’Onofrio added that Fisk is “not thinking completely clear” and that the attack will fuel his rage going forward. Scardapane hinted that Episode 5 takes the story somewhere unexpected. “Episode five is something… something new under the sun,” he said.
Episode 5, “The Grand Design,” streams on Disney+ on April 14, 2026, and will likely resolve Vanessa’s fate once and for all.
