Malcolm in the Middle’s Frankie Muniz Finally Clarifies Long-Misread Memory Struggles

Malcolm in the Middle star Frankie Muniz recently spoke out about his alleged memory struggles, which the actor insists are not as grave as fans and media made out to be. He inadvertently started the rumor himself back in 2017, but has now stepped forward to clarify it.

Frankie Muniz, who played the titular character in Malcolm in the Middle, recently explained in a podcast appearance that his memory issues are not as grave as many made out to be after he said that he did not remember much of the filming from Malcolm in the Middle.

The rumor about Muniz’s health started when the actor appeared on Dancing with the Stars in 2017, where he remarked that he remembers very little about his six years of filming for the show. He also said he did not know how to account for his lack of memories. Muniz further revealed that he has suffered several concussions and mini-strokes. Fans soon began to believe that Muniz was in poor health.

During his appearance on Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, Muniz shed light on this. “The story of that was taken out of context,” the actor said, “I have no memory issues, I have a bad memory. All these crazy stories have come out where people are like, ‘You don’t even know your [own] wife.’ I just have a bad memory.”

Muniz explained that he could learn lines with ease but doesn’t “absorb many things.”

“Since I was eight years old, I have been nonstop doing things — flying here, doing that, and just crazy cool things,” the actor explained, “I’ve also been an actor my whole life, where every single day I’m pretending to be somebody else and having somebody else’s emotions and somebody’s happiness or somebody’s sadness… And they say ‘cut’ when you’re done with the scene, and you forget about it. You never think about it again.”

The actor said that his childhood stardom and bad habits perhaps contributed to his bad memory,

In a later part of the podcast, the actor said, “I do think I have a bad memory, but it’s not like I have amnesia.” He added, “I have had nine concussions. That doesn’t help. But, you know.”
