The cover arrives as part of the newly-released soundtrack to ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’, the Kogonada-directed fantasy romance starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell.

Scored by Joe Hisaishi (The Boy and the Heron), the film also boasts four Laufey tracks, with one original number and three covers, including ‘Let’s Dream In The Moonlight’, ‘Winter Wonderland’ and ‘But Beautiful’.

Following the release of the film, Milan Records has now shared the soundtrack with fans, featuring Mitski’s minimalist take on the 1980 hit. The solo track from The Who‘s Townshend is pared back, featuring only the singer’s voice alongside stirring piano.

It follows news that Mitski herself would be releasing her new live film, The Land, in cinemas worldwide. Filmed over three nights at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta last September, the footage came from part of the New York singer-songwriter’s ‘The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We’ tour.

The Land will be released exclusively at 630 cinemas across 30 countries around the globe, for a limited time only, and is due to premiere on Wednesday October 22.

Tickets go on sale next Monday (September 15) – sign up here to buy yours. Fans who register will receive updates on locations and showtimes at a later date.

The film was directed by Grant James and mixed by Mitski’s long-standing producer, Patrick Hyland. It is produced by Moniker Films and Good Harbor Music, in association with Working Class Films and Dead Oceans

An official synopsis reads: “Mitski: The Land converts the magic and majesty of witnessing Mitski live onto screen. Filmed over three nights at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre in 2024, this is a thrilling portrayal of what kept hundreds of thousands of fans rapt at venues across the globe.”

As for ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’, the film earned two stars from NME, with Nick Levine comparing it to “a slightly awkward first date where the fitfully interesting moments aren’t enough to convince you that you’ve actually had a great time.

“Despite stellar efforts from Farrell and Robbie, it all adds up to something not quite charming, not quite moving and not quite compelling,” he wrote. “This film is less a big bold beautiful journey; more a mildly diverting pitstop.”
