Leonardo DiCaprio has revealed his favorite Christopher Nolan and Steven Spielberg movies. The actor recently discussed his career and influences, among other things, in a new interview while promoting his new film, One Battle After Another.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Benicio del Toro revealed their favorite Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, and Stanley Kubrick films in a conversation with Collider while promoting Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another.

The two actors, known for acclaimed performances in The Revenant, Traffic, and Sicario, feature in the upcoming action drama. DiCaprio plays Bob, a father searching for his daughter Willa (Chase Infiniti), which sets him on a collision course with Del Toro’s character. The film also features Sean Penn, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor.

When asked about Steven Spielberg, Del Toro responded, “E.T. for me.” DiCaprio answered, “Maybe Jaws. He’s done so many masterpieces. It’s hard to pick, right? God, yeah, I’d say Jaws.” On Christopher Nolan, both actors chose The Dark Knight.

For Stanley Kubrick, Del Toro immediately said, “2001 [A Space Odyssey].” DiCaprio agreed: “I was going to say the same thing, man.” He elaborated, “Dude, come on. Clockwork [Orange], The Shining. I just watched Full Metal Jacket the other day.” Del Toro added, “Barry Lyndon.” DiCaprio continued, “Barry Lyndon’s incredible. There are too many to pick. But 2001, for me, I remember watching it for the first time on VHS, but then I got to see it at the Cinerama Dome. Christopher Nolan found the original film and projected it at the Cinerama Dome with the original sound. Talk about a movie that was so ahead of its time. It’s just incredible. Beyond the movie, it’s kind of a spiritual experience.”

Del Toro later noted, “I watched Spartacus not too long ago. That’s one he did that’s also great.” He concluded, “I will also say to you that the correct answer for Kubrick is all of them.”

One Battle After Another releases in theaters September 26, 2025.
