The next few years are going to be quite pivotal for Tom Cruise, as he transitions from high-intensity action roles to more character-driven projects. He is, after all, nearing his mid-60s. This year, Cruise will star in Alejandro G. Iñarritu's Digger, which will be released in theaters in October. It's his first non-franchise film in years. Cruise spent the better part of the last couple of decades building the Mission: Impossible franchise, which seems to have reached some kind of conclusion. He also revitalized the Top Gun series with the blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick. However, not every IP-driven movie that Cruise starred in was as successful. One of them even managed to secure a sequel, but has retroactively been swept under the rug.
