Garret Dillahunt is set to star in the upcoming DCU HBO series Lanterns, and recently teased what legendary Green Lantern villain he might be playing.

What is Garret Dillahunt teasing about Lanterns?

In a recent post on Instagram, Dillahunt shared a few posts from a fan page on his stories. In them, it shared not only confirmed roles for Lanterns, like Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, and rumored roles. Specifically, the page had rumored Garret Dillahunt as Black Hand, and Paul Ben-Victor as Atrocitus. Dillahunt playfully reacted to it with an emoji, which you can see below:

For those unaware, Black Hand is a supervillain in the world of Green Lantern, and is an inventive genius that creates a device capable of absorbing the residue of Green Lantern power ring’s energy. While Black Hand is known across a variety of stories, he’s most well-known for his appearances in the Blackest Night storyline.

Atrocitus, also known as Atros, is another supervillain in the world of the Green Lantern. The leader of the Red Lantern Corps, Atrocitus possesses superhuman strength, intelligence, and more.

Currently, Dillahunt and Ben-Victor’s roles are mostly unknown. Dillahunt is said to be playing the role of William Macon, a cowboy who hides his “self-righteous, conspiracy-minded personality behind a charming facade.” Ben-Victor, on the other hand, is playing the role of Antaan, an extraterrestrial “devoted to exposing the truth and exacting vengeance against those who wronged his people.”

Since their castings, fans have theorized that both characters will be revealed to be someone else, with their names currently just a placeholder for any surprises.

An exact HBO Max premiere date has not yet been announced for Lanterns, though it is known that the show will arrive at some point in 2026. Other upcoming DCU projects include Peacemaker Season 2 (arriving next month), Supergirl (June 26, 2026), and Clayface (September 11, 2026), while James Gunn’s Superman movie is still playing in United States theaters.
