Luka Doncic has been nothing short of spectacular at EuroBasket 2025, but not everyone in Los Angeles is eager to see him keep pushing deep into the tournament.
Through Slovenia’s first three games in Group D, Doncic has been the standout star of the competition, averaging 33 points, 9.7 assists, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game. His historic triple-double against Belgium made him just the fourth player in EuroBasket history to achieve the feat, while his scoring has carried an undermanned Slovenian roster that currently sits at 1–2.
Despite the brilliance, one Lakers analyst suggested that Doncic has already “made his point” and doesn’t need to risk overexerting himself just to chase the Euro title. “I don’t want Luka to take this the wrong way, but I’d be okay with them bowing out at this point and him coming home so we can get going,” the analyst remarked, echoing concerns about his workload ahead of the NBA season.
Still, the Lakers front office has shown unwavering support. General manager Rob Pelinka and governor Jeanie Buss even traveled to Poland, watching Slovenia practice and later sharing lunch with Doncic. Pelinka emphasized that the franchise has “zero problems” with Luka representing his country, praising his pride and leadership.
For Slovenia, advancing will require consistent team play beyond Doncic. But for the Lakers, the debate continues: should their superstar chase EuroBasket glory, or prioritize rest for the NBA grind ahead?
