Critics are loving Knives Out 3 even more than they loved the second movie in the Daniel Craig-led franchise.
Knives Out 3, also known as Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, arrives on Netflix this coming December. Before that, fans of the franchise will have a chance to see it in select theaters, as it is getting a limited release beginning on November 26, 2025.
The Rian Johnson-directed movie just held its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this past weekend. So far, it’s received glowing reviews from critics.
What are critics saying about Knives Out 3?
At the time of this article’s publication, Knives Out 3 has a 96 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 25 reviews. That’s higher than the second movie in the franchise, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which has a 91 percent score. The first Knives Out, meanwhile, currently sits at 97 percent.
Brian Tallerico wrote for RogerEbert.com, “It is a film so rich in ideas that it’s the rare whodunit that seems likely to play even better the second time, when following the mystery can take a back seat to considering how Johnson has crafted one of his best screenplays. It’s a movie about faith vs. logic, the fake news era, and even the importance of storytelling.”
Variety’s Owen Gleiberman said, “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is an enticingly clever and droll, nearly pitch-perfect piece of murder-mystery fun — a whodunit that lives up to the expectations set six years ago by Knives Out, which offered its own perfect revival of the Agatha Christie spirit, with a tasty frosting of meta cheekiness.”
TheWrap’s Chase Hutchinson, meanwhile, said Knives Out 3 is “the one that’s most full of life” compared to the other two, and added, “It’s Johnson’s most elaborate murder mystery movie yet, but also his most emotional.”
Knives Out 3 arrives on Netflix on December 12, 2025.
