Tonight’s episode of Coronation Street saw the vengeful Jodie Ramsey make a desperate move to seduce her sister Shona’s (Julia Goulding) husband, David Platt (Jack P Shepherd)… with explosive fallout and deadly consequences.

Jodie has played a careful game until now.

Since she first set foot on the cobbles, this bunny-boiling baddie has made it her mission to wreak revenge on her sister Shona for running away from home years ago and leaving her little sister with their toxic father.

As payback, Jodie’s been trying to take away what matters to Shona the most – her family. With a steady drop of lies and manipulation, she’s been taking every opportunity to get cosy with David and drip poison about Shona’s parenting kills in the ears of their daughter Lily (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner).

It’s definitely been an effective long game, which started to cause cracks in the Platts’ relationship when Shona’s refusal to accept Jodie give Lily an ipad ruined the teenager’s birthday.

But Jodie’s slow-burn scheme was derailed last week when her shadowy past caught up with her.

Olivia, one of the children Jodie once looked after as a nanny, dropped in seemingly to catch up… but the real reason for her visit soon became clear when Scary Poppins caught the kid ransacking searching her belongings for a mysterious hard drive.

After kicking Olivia out, Jodie was confronted by Shona, and told her sister what may have been either the truth, or a pack of lies, about stealing the hard drive from her dangerous ex, Olivia’s dad, as an insurance policy so he wouldn’t kill her.

Horrified that her sister had brought danger to her doorstep, Shona told Jodie to get as far away from Coronation Street as possible – for her own sake as much as her family’s.

Too late.

In tonight’s episode, Jodie was already packing her bags when a heartbroken Lily caught her about to run away. She begged to go with Jodie, and when Jodie refused, Lily lashed out and cried in tears that Jodie should just do them all a favour and leave.

Then things got worse. Hearing a scream, Jodie rushed outside to find Shona being accosted by two thugs searching for the hard drive.

In an uncharacteristic of display of selflessness, Jodie told the thugs it was her that they were looking for and handed over the hard drive to spare Shona. After the thugs left, Shona consoled her sobbing sister, who cried that it was all her fault. Maybe Jodie’s lust for revenge has finally gone for good…

No such luck.

Earlier that day, a drunken David, fresh from Swarla’s wedding, had eased Shona’s guilty conscience about never replying to Jodie’s letter all those years ago trying to reach out. Thanks to Shona, Jodie was under the impression that Shona never received the letter…

… or at least she was. Until she stumbled upon Shona’s phone and snooped through her voicemail messages.

In a fit of rage, Jodie responded to a flirty message from David to Shona’s phone as Shona, sending a love hearted when he suggested they make the most of having the house to themselves.

When a drunken David returned, he found candles lit for a romantic atmosphere and stumbled into bed with who he thought was Shona. But it was Jodie, wearing Shona’s lingerie and presumably her perfume. Hence what has to be one of the best lines in Soap all year…

Then it happened. David kissed Jodie.

But he didn’t have much time to enjoy it. No sooner did Jodie whisper his name amorously, did he snap out of it and realise that he had leapt into bed with the wrong sister.

Recriminations flew as David accused Jodie of setting the whole thing up, while Jodie tried to gaslight the hell out of him and twists the narrative so he looked like the guilty party.

Because she was so keen to tell Shona what happened, Jodie’s intent was clear – to destroy David’s marriage by making him look like a cheater. Fortunately it didn’t get that far. Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) heard their heated argument from outside and came into investigate.

Things did not look good for David. The more defensive David got, the more convincing Jodie’s story looked in Sarah’s eyes every time he denied making a move on her. And boy, did he deny it. ‘In your dreams Glenn Close!’ he shouted.

Sarah was quick to point out that Michael Douglas’s character in Fatal Attraction was in fact having an affair with Glenn Close, which didn’t exactly help his case.

However, Jodie was ultimately the architect of her own downfall when she brought up a traumatic part of David’s past to try and incriminate him, ‘I know about the stuff that happened with your mate… Josh, was it? You know your friend. It just goes to show that things can get twisted.’

Jodie is referring to mechanic Josh Tucker (Ryan Clayton) who drugged David and sexually assaulted him back in 2018 as part of a male rape storyline.

When Jodie referenced the attack and urged David to ‘stop playing the victim’, Sarah lost all sympathy with her.David kicked Jodie out, declaring ‘no-one cares if you live or die! Now get out of my house!’

While David ranted about Jodie to Sarah and branded her evil…

… Jodie was confronted in the park by a mysterious figure. ‘What do you want now?’ Please, just leave me alone!

Since Jodie is one of five potential victims in Coronation Street’s much anticipated Whodunnit, was this scene her final moments? And was the mysterious figure someone from her past… or someone closer to home?
