Jimmy Carr has revealed he typically eats just once a day, admitting he is ‘very conscious’ about his weight and staying trim.
The 53-year-old comedian opened up about his eating habits during an appearance on Katherine Ryan’s podcast What’s My Age Again?, where he spoke candidly about body image and the pressures he puts on himself.
Carr explained that his daily routine largely consists of black coffee and water, with his first proper meal often not coming until the evening.
‘I’m pretty body conscious as it is. I mean, I would say not like I think I’ve got an eating disorder, but I think I’m very conscious of weight, very conscious of staying sort of trim,’ he said.
He added that his mindset may not be the healthiest, reflecting on how discussions around body image have historically focused more on women.
‘In a way that’s probably on balance, maybe not the healthiest, really.’
When Ryan asked if he follows intermittent fasting, Carr said his habits naturally align with it, revealing he tends to eat once a day.
He said his intake that day had consisted only of black coffee and water, adding that he would likely eat later that evening.
Still, Carr admitted he still has a soft spot for junk food, particularly McDonald’s, which he turns to when travelling.
‘When travelling I love a McDonald’s. I love them…Well, because their hygiene system is the same globally. So sometimes if you’re somewhere, you don’t know what the good restaurant is in this crazy Eastern European town you find yourself in…
‘You go, well, I know McDonald’s will be fine. I know I’ll be fine.’
‘The poisons in the dose, I think with all of these things,’ he added.
Elsewhere in the podcast, Carr shared his controversial views on drugs, arguing that marijuana can be a ‘performance inhibiting’ substance for younger people and joking that its use should be reserved for later in life.
‘And it robs people of their ambition in the crucial years. I think it should be legal 30 to 50. And then I think over 50 mandatory… Well because old men are taking all the cash.
‘And the redistribution of wealth would be aided by men going slow down.’
The comedian has been open about his various procedures over the years, including a hair transplant, botox, and veneers.
‘Christ, I’m like the Forth Bridge – it never stops,’ he joked, referring to the story of the Scottish bridge which constantly needs repainting.
‘Maintaining is the thing – I don’t think there’s anything you can do plastic surgery wise, or augmentation wise, that makes you look better, you can just stay the same, that’s what you can hope for.’
He continued to The Telegraph: ‘I’ve gone a bit crazy with it, I’ve got the new teeth and the new hair – I’ve had a proper midlife crisis. Like, “Right, let’s get everything done”.’
Jimmy has often made himself the butt of the joke when it comes to his surgeries, exchanging playful jabs with Katherine Ryan and Amanda Holden in the past.
In 2020, Jimmy opened up about the procedures he’s undergone, saying: ‘I’ve had a lot of work done. I got my teeth knocked out and put back in.
‘And then I had a hair transplant in the lockdown, which I didn’t particularly need, but what else are you going to do in lockdown?’
