Jamie Laing has now denied that he claims he was left ‘furious’ after his Boat Race blunder on the weekend.
He posted a screenshot of one such claim on Instagram, writing he’s not sure he’s ‘ever been furious in his life’ with a laughing emoji.
The posts comes after the radio presenter likened the incident to just being like the Oscars’ ‘envelopegate’ after he offered his commiserations to Cambridge – despite the team having just won the race against Oxford.
Each year, men and women from the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford compete against one another in a 4.25-mile boat race from Putney to Mortlake.
But, the Made in Chelsea star, 37, who was working alongside broadcasting legend Clare Balding to bring coverage of the annual races, said he was given the wrong envelope when presenting the winner.
Posting on social media previously, Jamie shared a clip of him saying: ‘Sorry, my mistake. That’s a typo. Commiserations go to the losing crew Oxford University Boat Club.
‘It’s like the Oscars all over again. Now, let’s welcome the winners to the podium, Cambridge University Boat Club.’
Captioning the post, he wrote: ‘When you get handed the wrong cue card on LIVE TV.’
Then, an insider claimed that Jamie has ‘tried to point fingers’ at other people since the incident.
‘Jamie reacted well to the mess-up at the time, but made it very clear he wasn’t happy behind the scenes,’ an insider told The Sun.
‘He was furious that the mistake had been allowed to happen – and instantly knew the moment would go viral.
‘Jamie’s had to suffer a lot of backlash as a result and has been quick to shift the blame.
‘He’s the face of the gaffe, but he has tried to point fingers at the off-camera team as much as possible.’
Jamie has now denied this with his social media post.
Earlier in the show, many fans criticised Jamie for his presenting style after he repeatedly probed those in the boat race by saying: ‘How are you feeling?’
@GroovyRacer on X wrote: ‘Jamie Laing is ridiculous. He simply asks everyone in the #boatrace “How are you feeling?”.’
Other users felt the same, with Adam Gray commenting: ‘Someone should tell Jamie Laing he’s allowed to ask other questions than “How are you feeling?” and “How proud are you?”’.’
A spokesman for Channel 4 has, however, defended Jamie, even offering him a job on the show.
They told the publication: ‘Jamie was a fantastic addition to the broadcast and brought great energy to the event.
‘As with any live sports production, occasional errors can occur in a fast-paced environment, and we’re grateful for how professionally the moment was handled.’
Metro has contacted Jamie for comment.
