James Gunn's DC Universehas addressed a nine-year-old DC movie, retconning it in the process. The DCU's connection to the DCEU's movie timeline places the former franchise in an interesting position. Upcoming DC movies have the liberty to pick and choose which elements of the DCEU will be canon to the DCU, with anything not mentioned subsequently being non-canon.
