Is Todd leaving Coronation Street and what will happen to him?

The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Coronation Street dated April 13.

Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) has managed to escape Theo Silverton’s (James Cartwright) clutches in Coronation Street after an attack that’s left him barely able to stand up.

The controlling behaviour from Theo began a few months after they started seeing each other. At first, Todd put these concerning signs down to the troubled past Theo has and believed with time, he could help his boyfriend move forward.

Things have now seriously escalated. Todd’s life has been put in danger as a result of Theo time and time again, and recently made the horrifying realisation that he probably killed friend and confidante Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank).

An awful lot has happened to Todd since this storyline began, so let’s take a look at some of the key moments so far.

What has happened to Todd so far?

In the early months of this plot, Theo started to grow controlling, berating Todd for the food he chose to eat and even forcefully feeding him kebab meat.

As their relationship continued, things only got worse. Theo has pushed Todd beyond his limits with his exercise regime, having signed him up to do a marathon against his wishes.

He has continually gaslit Todd by blaming him for upsetting people and meddling in situations, and isolated him from friends like Billy and Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby).

When Todd felt unable to put up with Theo’s behaviour any longer, Theo turned to self-harm, leaving Todd feeling as though he had no choice but to stay with him, as Theo promised to get help.

Theo’s abuse has also turned violent on multiple occasions. He has poured a bottle of milk over Todd’s head, smashed his face into a mirror and beaten him.

In a special episode that aired last year, which focused entirely on Todd and Theo’s story and played out through the lenses of different cameras, Theo locked Todd in the bathroom overnight before goading him into lashing out.

Theo fell onto a coffee table after being shoved by Todd, and ended up in hospital, while Todd was arrested for assault. In a tragic turn of events, this led their neighbours to believe that Todd was the violent one in the relationship.

Todd had hidden secret cameras in the flat to prove Theo’s abuse, but even this was turned against him when Theo found them and doctored the footage to paint himself as the victim.

At the start of 2026, Todd began to wonder if light was appearing at the end of a tunnel, when he finally confided in Billy about his abuse.

Todd got very close to leaving Theo, but his hope was ripped away when Billy died in the Corriedale crossover event. Unbeknownst to Todd, Billy is only dead because Theo trapped him in the minibus, moments before it exploded.

In recent weeks, Theo started to grow paranoid after it became apparent that Todd’s loved ones had worked out he’s being abused.

He told Todd about a job in Belfast, and convinced him that they should leave and get away from nosy Weatherfield residents. Desperate to appease his now-husband, Todd agreed.

Everything changed though when Todd discovered Summer Spellman’s (Harriet Bibby) theory about Theo killing Billy. Todd attempted to escape the flat, but Theo caught him and unleashed his violence once more.

What does the future hold for Todd and Theo?

In the episode of Coronation Street broadcasted on April 13, Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) found Todd outside her flat covered in blood.

This week, Todd will report Theo to the police, and will discuss his ordeal with DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and Kit Green (Jacob Roberts).

Elsewhere, we know that Theo is one of the five potential murder victims in Corrie’s flashforward, which confirmed someone will die in the coming weeks, but could Todd end up being the person who kills Theo?

Or will Theo go to prison for inflicting such horror on Todd?

It was revealed this summer that Todd is not Theo’s first abuse victim.

Theo remained cool as he was confronted by ex-boy Owen during a night-out on Canal Street. Owen accused him of being abusive, but covered his actions by painting Owen as the one who was controlling in their relationship.

When Todd questioned him, Theo accused him of being just like Owen, twisting his innocent questions and making out that his partner was accusing him of something.

Is Todd leaving Coronation Street?

At the moment there has been no confirmation that Todd is set to leave Coronation Street, but that doesn’t mean it is impossible.

Given what we know about the flashforward, it’s possible Todd could face prison time, if he ends up murdering Theo.

Alternatively, in order to get away from his partner, there is a chance Todd could run away from Weatherfield.

However, until the story concludes, we’ll just have to wait and see…
