After eight years on the air (and two linear seasons), most network procedural shows have either run out of interesting storylines to tell, become formulaic in their execution or just plain repetitive. The Rookie has been able to remain original, despite being the third-longest-running police series currently airing (by almost 50 percent), compared to all other series on television as of October 31, 2023.
