HIJINX Returns to 1985 Music with Four Fresh Bass Tracks

**Bristol-based producer HIJINX has dropped the Survival Loop EP, featuring styles ranging from dark dubstep to UK garage.**

It’s no secret that most 1985 Music projects share a familiar style, and HIJINX is one of the producers who has become a staple of the coveted imprint over the years. His knack for dark, edgy sounds that cover nearly all corners of UK bass music makes him a perfect fit for the vibe that fans have come to know and love from the label.

HIJINX returned to 1985 Music this week with his latest release, the Survival Loop EP. It features four new tracks with no additional producers, meaning HIJINX takes the full spotlight.

He starts the project with his take on classic dubstep in “Nish,” whose deep and punchy basslines build tension before the EP takes an unexpected turn with “Watson.” It sounds straight from a UKG dancefloor, but complete with that dark signature HIJINX flair.

The Survival Loop theme derives from HBO sci-fi series Westworld, so it’s only fitting that a cryptic quote from the show is sampled for the project’s namesake track. “All my life, I’ve prided myself on being a survivor. But surviving is just another loop,” it says, before the arrangement takes off into a fast rhythm that certainly fits the “loop” concept, with choppy breaks throughout.

The EP closes out with “Sleepwalkin,” another satisfyingly experimental track where HIJINX shows off his ability to break the boundaries between underground dubstep and club music. There’s no doubt that all four tracks on the Survival Loop EP are sound system ready and guaranteed to cause madness during live shows.

Previously known under the alias Mr. K, HIJINX rebranded in 2020. It didn’t take long for labels like White Peach Records, Navy Cut, and Innamind to pick up his releases. Not only has HIJINX created a name for himself in the UK scene, but fans from North America are also catching onto his sounds. Often appearing at popular US underground spots like The Black Box in Denver, he’s not only on the UK radar.
