HBO has gained a great reputation as the home of prestige drama. However, while many of the best shows on HBO showcase excellent writing and acting, the platform has fewer standout genre shows. Many of the best sci-fi and fantasy TV shows have found success elsewhere, and although HBO could have had a flagship steampunk show in 2021, it was canceled after just one season. The Nevers was created by Joss Whedon and merged historical drama with sci-fi and fantasy, following a group of women who find themselves with supernatural powers.
