Gina Carano Reveals How She Feels About MMA Return After The Mandalorian Exit

Five years after she was fired from The Mandalorian for her politically charged comments, Gina Carano is returning to MMA. This comes after a stint of roles, which includes Fast & Furious 6 and Deadpool. Ahead of her return, Carano spoke about how she felt about going back to MMA.

Gina Carano, who was removed from The Mandalorian by Disney following controversial social media posts, had previously built a career in both acting and MMA. Carano portrayed Cara Dune in two seasons of the Disney+ series, a role that received strong audience recognition.

Her social media activity, which included posts comparing aspects of modern American politics to Nazi Germany, comments about COVID-19 mask usage, and remarks related to election claims, drew widespread criticism at the time and led to her exit from the show.

Five years later, Carano is now returning to MMA. “The last couple of years were a bit tough,” Carano said ahead of her May 16 fight against Ronda Rousey (via EW). “And now my family looks at me and says, ‘You look healthy again.’ And my mom was like, ‘Are you going to do this? You have to make a decision, yes or no. And if you do it, you do it 100%.'”

Carano said that when she enters the ring, “all of the impurities and bullshit goes away.” She added, “I missed this feeling, and I think the people that care about me know how precious this is to get back to myself after losing myself for so long.”

“A lot of people only know me as an actor, and then they find out I’m a fighter. And Ronda’s been so gracious to reintroduce me to the world,” she continued. “So it’s really cool to have that recognized. I think that you’re going to see the best of me. I really feel you’re going to see the best version of me.”

Carano had filed a lawsuit against Lucasfilm after she was fired. The lawsuit has been settled since.
