Is Cameron Mathison’s Drew leaving General Hospital? The latest episode delivered a shocking twist as Drew Cain suddenly collapsed, leaving Port Charles stunned and full of questions. Once seen as a heroic Navy SEAL, he now faces a downfall that deepens the mystery around his fate.

Here is what set up Drew’s dramatic turn and how it drives the story forward.

Did Cameron Mathison’s Drew Cain die on General Hospital?

On the September 2, 2025 episode of General Hospital, an unknown assailant shot Drew Cain. The character, played by Cameron Mathison, was hit twice in the back.

Months of schemes and betrayals left him surrounded by enemies. He collapsed after the attack, but the show has not confirmed his death, leaving his survival uncertain. Drew’s downfall came through a series of manipulations. He blackmailed Portia, blocked Scout’s family ties, and misused his political power as a congressman. He also turned nearly all of Port Charles against him.

Drew attempted to demolish the Quartermaine crypt and targeted Stella with insurance fraud investigators. These actions shifted him from a heroic Navy SEAL to one of Port Charles’ most despised figures.

In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Mathison acknowledged the deliberate buildup to Drew’s shooting. “Obviously, everybody hates me like crazy, but at the same time, they had to do that for the last four or five months,” he explained. “They can’t just have people not like me. They have to have people want to kill me!”

He further noted that playing Drew’s darker side has been “weirdly therapeutic” after personal life challenges, adding, “I go to work and get to be such a jerk — it’s almost like my little fantasy escape.”

Mathison also shared his enthusiasm for anchoring the “Who Shot Drew?” storyline, comparing it to the classic Dallas “Who Shot J.R.?” mystery. “I’m super-excited about it,” he said. “You don’t care if you are the punching bag for all of Port Charles, you’re still the center of the story and that feels really cool.”

He emphasized that performing the shooting scenes was a challenge he embraced, remarking, “Everybody wants Drew shot and dead. So I wanted to make sure that I gave them my all.”
