General Hospital has recently announced a new casting update, as a star from Mean Girls joins the long-running series. This actor will portray a new character named Joe Fitzpatrick.
Jonathan Bennett added to General Hospital’s cast
The update came out this week it was confirmed through an official report from PEOPLE. Jonathan Bennett has been added to the current cast lineup. The show continues to run after several decades. His character, Joe Fitzpatrick, has been newly created.
There are currently very few details available about the role, but the debut is anticipated to occur in May, which has already been confirmed publicly. Executive producer Frank Valentini released a statement about this casting, saying, “We’re so excited to have Jonathan joining our cast. He’s a tremendous talent and will be a fantastic addition to GH.”
This will not be his first appearance in soaps. Jonathan Bennett previously worked on All My Children in 2001. He played the role of J.R. Chandler. That role also marked his television debut at the time.
He later became widely recognized for his role in Mean Girls, where he played Aaron Samuels. The movie was released in 2004 and gained significant popularity over the years. This role remains one of his best-known performances.
Jonathan Bennett also told PEOPLE that he began his career in soaps at a young age. He said the chance to play a fun role on General Hospital felt like an easy decision. “I started my career on soaps.. it felt like a no-brainer,” he said.
He added that he learned acting on daytime television when he was 19 years old. Now, he is returning with more experience and skills, saying, “I have a few more tools in my tool belt, so this should be fun.”
Now, Jonathan Bennett enters the series with a new role. The character introduction is scheduled for the coming weeks.
