There are many shocking moments throughout Game of Thrones' run, though few of them are as jaw-dropping as Ned Stark's season 1 death. Although viewers acquainted with the Song of Ice and Fire books knew Ned's execution was imminent, newcomers to the franchise weren't expecting such an important character to die so early.
