Fun 2021 PS5, PS4 Game That Never Left Beta Is Shutting Down

A 2021 PS4 multiplayer action game (playable on PS5) is shutting down after a lengthy beta period that lasted almost the entire current console generation. Mega Zombie is a free-to-play shooter featuring a voxel art style. The game, which was also expanded to mobile devices, will no longer be playable after fall 2026.

As far as we’re aware, Mega Zombie remained console-exclusive to PlayStation. Those who’ve played the game report that it was fairly active at least up until last year. Why Mega Zombie never left beta is anybody’s guess.

Mega Zombie’s social media has not been active since 2022. We’ve also seen reports that the game’s servers were already down in some regions for quite some time.

Mega Zombie’s full global closure is scheduled for September 14, 2026.

“We would like to sincerely thank all the players who have played and supported Mega Zombie Beta on PlayStation over the years,” reads a statement from the developer (thanks, PSNProfiles). “After carefully reviewing the long-term service operation status, server maintenance costs, and the current service environment, we have determined that it has become difficult to continue providing a stable online service. For this reason, we have decided to terminate the PlayStation online service for Mega Zombie Beta.”

Mega Zombie’s trophies are all online, so make sure to grab them while you can.
