It's so hard to get a parody or a satire right, and it's especially difficult to do it respectfully and lovingly and make people even bigger fans of the thing you're making warm fun of to begin with. This film is a great example of doing that properly, because although it is incessantly roasting Star Trek, and all of its eccentricities, its fandom, celebrity culture and sci-fi tropes, it does so because it clearly adores all of them. It also happens to be one of the best Star Trek movies, even though it isn't one. Funny, right?
