The Calgary Flames have inked one of their 2023 draftees to a contract.
The club announced Wednesday that defenceman Axel Hurtig had signed a three-year, entry-level contract with an average annual value of $990,000.
Hurtig, a 20-year-old Swede, is the captain of the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen. During the 2025-26 regular season, he posted a career-best 19 points (six goals and 13 assists) in 64 games.
With the Hitmen currently in the first round of the WHL Playoffs, Hurtig has recorded a goal and two assists through three games to help his team to a 3-0 series lead.
The Flames selected him 208th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft.
