After tempers boiled over in a tightly-contested game between the Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars on Tuesday night, the league has begun handling the aftermath.
Flames forward Ryan Strome has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for cross-checking Stars forward Jason Robertson, the NHL announced on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at 0:45 of overtime in what ended up as a 4-3 win for Dallas.
Robertson exited the game after the hit and Strome was assessed a double-minor penalty for high-sticking.
Earlier in the game, Strome was pushed into the boards from behind by Stars’ defenceman Tyler Myers — a play that was originally called a five-minute major but was overturned to a non-call after review.
Strome, 32, joined the Flames at the NHL’s trade deadline in March and has posted five goals and six assists through 16 games. His 11 points already surpassed his total of nine points (three goals, six assists) in 33 appearances with the Anaheim Ducks before getting dealt.
