Peacemaker Season 2 has taken a surprising turn, with Episode 3 delivering an unexpected return that reshapes the show’s dynamics. The new installment expands on the alternate universe storyline while revisiting key moments from the past, bringing back a familiar face in a way that adds fresh tension. Alongside this twist, the episode sets up major conflicts that will carry into the rest of the season.

Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag returns in Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 3
In Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 3, Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag Jr. makes a surprise return in two separate ways.
The episode first shows Rick Flag Jr. in a flashback set three years earlier. It reveals that he was simultaneously involved with June Moon and Emilia Harcourt. The flashback highlights the emotional connection between Flag and Harcourt. She calls him her only friend, while he considers leaving June for her.
The alternate universe storyline introduces another version of Rick Flag Jr. In this dimension, he is still alive. Peacemaker encounters this Flag while exploring the alternate reality and discovers he is Harcourt’s current boyfriend. Earlier episodes hinted at this when Peacemaker’s brother, Keith, called Harcourt’s partner a “jarhead,” mocking Flag’s military background. Unlike the main DCU Flag, this alternate version is lighter in tone and used for comic relief.
The flashback takes place only hours before the events of The Suicide Squad. During that mission, Peacemaker killed Flag in Corto Maltese. The reveal adds new context to Harcourt’s present-day hesitation with Peacemaker. She continues to carry the loss of Flag, who had been both her confidant and lover.
Episode 3 also explains why Christopher Smith returns to his original dimension. After saving lives in the alternate universe and spending time with Harcourt there, he realizes he must settle unfinished business at home. When he comes back, ARGUS agents are already waiting. They are investigating spikes of interdimensional energy, a direct result of his travel.
Alongside Kinnaman’s appearance, the episode also features Michael Rooker returning to the DCU, though not as Savant. Instead, he debuts a new role, Red St. Wild, an eagle hunter assigned to target Peacemaker’s companion, Eagly.
This development sets up a conflict with ARGUS in the following episode.
