Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi has officially found his next horror project in the form of a Magic remake based on 1978’s cult classic horror movie, which was led by Oscar-winning actor Anthony Hopkins. Raimi has teamed up with Lionsgate to develop and produce the reimagining through his Raimi Productions banner.

Who is involved in Sam Raimi’s Magic remake?

Besides Raimi, Chris Hammond and Tim Sullivan will also serve as producers on the Magic remake, along with Roy Lee and Raimi Productions’ Zainab Azizi. The project will be written by Mark Swift and Damian Shannon. This marks the scribes’ latest collaboration with Raimi. They first co-wrote the screenplay for the Spider-Man director’s next horror directorial feature, titled Send Help, which will arrive in theaters on January 30, 2026.

The upcoming horror remake will also be executive-produced by Andrew Childs for Vertigo and Paul Fishkin, with Meredith Wieck and Pavan Kalidindi overseeing the project for Lionsgate. At the moment, the project has no director, cast, or target release date attached to it yet.

In the original movie, Hopkins played the role of Corky, a magician who reaches fame alongside his ventriloquist’s dummy, the obnoxious and wisecracking Fats, whom Corky cannot control. It was directed by Richard Attenborough from a screenplay written by William Goldman, based on Goldman’s novel of the same name. The cast also included Ann-Margret, Burgess Meredith, Ed Lauter, E. J. André, and more. The movie currently holds a Tomatometer rating of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 23 reviews.
