A fresh Tomb Raider adaptation is on the way from Amazon Prime Video, with the streamer confirming who will play intrepid explorer Lara Croft.
It was announced this week that Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner will step into the lead role, following in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie, who starred as Croft in two films.
Alicia Vikander took over the role in 2018 for the reboot of the iconic video game series.
Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge will helm the TV series, with production set to begin on January 19, 2026.
That gives fans of the franchise plenty of time to rewatch the three existing Lara Croft films, with some streaming for free right now.
Where can I stream the Tomb Raider films?
Both Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life are streaming for free right now on BBC iPlayer, while Tomb Raider is available on Amazon Prime Video.

Kicking off the film franchise in 2001, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider follows the titular hero attempting to obtain ancient artifacts in competition with the Illuminati.
It also starred Iain Glen, Jon Voight, and former Bond star Daniel Craig among its star-studded cast.
The Cradle of Life followed two years later, with Jolie reprising her iconic role alongside the likes of Gerard Butler, Ciarán Hinds, Chris Barrie, and Noah Taylor.
This time around, Croft was pitted against bioterrorist Jonathan Reiss (Hinds) in a race against time to locate Pandora’s Box.
The Tomb Raider franchise was rebooted in 2018 with Vikander taking over the role of a young Lara Croft, based on the 2013 video game.
In it, Croft is pushed to her limits when she discovers the island where her father, Lord Richard Croft (Dominic West), disappeared when she was just a teenager.

What do we know about the new Tomb Raider series?
While we don’t have a release date yet for Prime Video’s Tomb Raider series, it has been confirmed that production begins early next year.
That means that we could get the series premiere in 2027, or even as early as autumn 2026 if we’re lucky.
Waller-Bridge is writing, creating, and co-showrunning the series, with Turner in the role of Croft.
Further casting and plot details are yet to be announced, with it unclear whether the series will follow a fresh storyline or one of the games.
‘I’m so excited to announce the formidable Sophie Turner as our Lara alongside this phenomenal creative team,’ Waller-Bridge said in a statement on the casting news.

‘It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artefacts out — Croft is coming.’
Meanwhile, Turner said in the announcement that she is ‘thrilled beyond measure’ to have clinched the role.
‘She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many — and I am giving everything I’ve got,’ she said in a statement.
‘They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.’
The upcoming new series of Lara Croft will air on Amazon Prime.
