Born March 30th, 1945, iconic rock guitarist Eric Clapton came to prominence as a member of the Yardbirds in 1963, before leaving the band to join John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers in 1965 for a brief sojourn. From there he formed Cream, a power trio consisting of himself, drummer Ginger Baker, and bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce. The band enjoyed great success, as would follow-up bands Blind Faith and Derek and the Dominos, releasing only one album under each moniker, the latter of which produced the classic track "Layla."
