The last person you’d want finding out your deepest, darkest secrets is Emmerdale’s Dr Todd (Caroline Harker), but sadly that’s something Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) is set to learn for herself after an unexpected upcoming ITV soap twist.
Todd has absolutely annihilated Jacob Sugden’s (Joe-Warren Plant) self-belief and confidence as part of her cruel campaign of abuse, bullying the young medical student at every given opportunity.
Jacob has felt so low in the wake of his so-called mentor’s vile behaviour that he’s been unable to think straight or focus on the task at hand, always fearing how Todd might react if he makes what she deems to be the wrong move.
Fed up of feeling like this, he made an official complaint to HR earlier this week, much to the horror of Todd, who warned him to tread carefully in response. Jacob stood steadfast in his position, refusing to let her push him around.
Todd, however, subsequently swooped when Charity was found in a lift, having given birth to the child Jacob and granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) believe to be theirs.
Charity was rushed into theatre, with Todd performing the surgery. In the first of two video clips – which you can watch below – from Wednesday’s (April 22) edition of the ITV soap, Sarah and Jacob get acquainted with the little baby as they attempt to process the child’s traumatic arrival, worried for Charity.
Jacob assures Sarah that Todd is good at what she does, meaning Charity is in safe hands.
The procedure appears to go well, with Charity seen recovering in a hospital room in the second video clip (at the top of the article), making a panicked phone call to Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), worried sick that Ross Barton (Michael Parr) – who helped deliver the baby – is growing attached.
Ross, as viewers know, is the newborn’s biological father as, contrary to Sarah and Jacob’s beliefs, the embryo transfer did not work, with Charity subsequently falling pregnant with Ross’ baby after a one night stand with her ex.
Determined to give Sarah the baby she’s always wanted, Charity resolved to keep shtum about the paternity, but she fears that Ross will blow the whole thing and thus persuades Chas to have a word.
Chas does just that outside Hotten General, warning Ross to keep his distance from the baby. Little do they know, however, that Dr Todd has overheard their conversation!
Oh boy.

Just how much has she heard? Does she know that the baby isn’t Jacob’s? If so, just how will she use this information?
Todd is as ruthless as they come and has proven in the past, particularly in regards to bringing up Maya Stepney, that she will do whatever it takes – and use any information she can -to stay in control.
Will she confront Charity on the subject? Or will she go straight to Jacob and destroy his world by revealing the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 or stream from 7am on ITVX and YouTube.
