The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Emmerdale dated May 14. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX and YouTube.

Doctor Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) is ready to leave Emmerdale – but whether she’ll destroy Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) and Sarah Sugden’s (Katie Hill) world before she goes remains to be seen.

The vile surgeon was on hand to assist Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) when she went into labour a few weeks ago. Charity gave birth to a little girl following the agreement that she’d be a surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah.

It was revealed last year that the baby Charity was carrying isn’t biologically Sarah and Jacob’s. Following a one-night stand with Ross Barton (Michael Parr), Charity became pregnant with his child, but refused to tell Sarah and Jacob the truth.

Doctor Todd only learnt about the lie because she saw that baby Leyla’s blood group doesn’t match Jacob’s. She used this knowledge to her advantage by getting Charity to convince Jacob to drop the HR complaint against her, but that wasn’t the end of her blackmail plan.

Following her father’s death, Caitlin inherited her family’s home. She explained to love interest Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) that she needed some money to do it up, and needed to find that cash because going into early retirement meant she didn’t have enough.

Spying Charity at the bar, a fresh idea formed for Doctor Todd. She told Charity that she wanted £10,000, or she’d tell everyone about her ‘sordid little secret’.

Charity wasn’t able to find this money quick enough, and only presented Doctor Todd with half of it today. Because she had ran out of time, Charity took the approach of threatening Caitlin and telling her to leave, or else she’d regret it.

Back at Tug Ghyll, it seemed Doctor Todd had got the message as she told Vanessa that she would be leaving the village tomorrow, and that they’d be better off just ending their romance.

Future spoilers for the ITV soap have already confirmed Doctor Todd isn’t leaving just yet, as her latest demand for Charity will see her contemplate selling her shares of the Woolpack to keep the wicked surgeon quiet.

Star Emma Atkins explained further: ‘She’s like, “Why?” Charity’s not willing to divulge, she’s like, “You don’t need to know”. Kim’s like, “Oh, I think I do. Nobody in their right mind would sell their share of this great hub, the epicentre of the village, why?” “You don’t need to know,” and she will not let the guard down, she won’t let her mask slip.

‘She’s just suggesting that she wants less responsibility in her life, and obviously the audience will know why. So, yeah, she’s definitely suspicious. At the moment, I think she is the only one.’

If she sells, Charity’s heart will be broken, but as Emma shares, she has no choice. Charity is so determined to keep the truth about baby Leyla hidden, she really will do whatever it takes.

‘She just puts on this facade. Kim, you’re amazing. Take my business, do with it what you want. It’s the epicentre of the village, if anyone can run this place, you can”. And behind all that, she’s going, “She’s so awful!” Because at the end she leaves and she goes, “I’ll be the decider of that. I’ll let you know,” and she walks out and Charity’s like… So it’s all of that. It’s a poker face, isn’t it?

‘She will do whatever she needs to do to keep the secret hidden, so there’s no worry for her to do that. But yeah, inside she’s raging. Raging!’.
