Deadliest Catch star Todd Meadows met a tragic accident on February 25, 2026, while working on the Aleutian Lady, one of the vessels in the long-running Discovery Channel show. Weeks later, the cause of death for the 25-year-old has been revealed.

Deckhand Todd Meadows’ ‘painful’ cause of death revealed

Deadliest Catch deckhand Todd Meadows died at the age of 25 following an accident while working on the Aleutian Lady, one of the vessels filmed for the show. He was fishing for crabs in the Bering Sea at the time of his death on February 25, 2026.

The official cause of death for Meadows has now been disclosed.

According to TMZ, Meadows died from “drowning with probable hypothermia” and “submersion of body in cold water.” These details were reportedly disclosed in his death certificate. He was pronounced dead at 5:15 PM on February 25.

Reports previously stated that Todd fell overboard while crabbing off the coast of Alaska. Cameras were rolling when the accident occurred. However, his family has asked Discovery not to air any footage of the incident.

Captain Rick Shelford, who has been part of Deadliest Catch since season 19, described the incident as the “most tragic day in the history of the Aleutian Lady.” Production for the 22nd season of the show was subsequently concluded following the incident. “His love for fishing and his strong work ethic earned everyone’s respect right away. His smile was contagious, and the sound of his laughter coming up the wheelhouse stairs or over the deck hailer is something we will carry with us always,” Shelford added (via Deadline).

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Todd Meadows. This is a devastating loss, and our hearts are with his loved ones, his crewmates, and the entire fishing community during this incredibly difficult time,” a spokesperson for Discovery Channel said.

Todd is survived by his wife and three children. His family set up a GoFundMe campaign, which has reportedly raised $56,000.
