Cristin Milioti, 40, took home the Lead Actress in a Limited Series category at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards. She triumphed over Cate Blanchett, Michelle Williams, Rashida Jones, and Meghann Fahy. Farrell, her co-star who portrays Oswald Cobblepot, escorted her to the stage. They were later photographed backstage hugging after the win.
Milioti’s acceptance speech was noted for its candidness, as she read from notes scribbled on the back of her therapy papers. “Sorry, I wrote this on the back of notes I took in therapy the other day, so don’t look at the back,” she said.
She added, “It’s very hard to make sense of being alive right now in this world, so I’m deeply grateful for the bright spots. Making this show with our incredible cast and crew, and getting to inhabit this woman, was a bright spot for me. Despite it being very grisly, playing her felt like flying.” She also thanked her family, saying, “Thank you for supporting your strange kid and showing me movies that were very inappropriate for my age.”
Following the ceremony at LA’s Peacock Theatre, Milioti headed to Vas J Morgan’s afterparty in a black mini dress and leather jacket. At the entrance, she tripped and dropped her Emmy. A doorman quickly picked it up and returned it to her. Smiling, she brushed off the fall and continued inside to celebrate.
Later, she posed for photos with fellow Emmy winner Noah Wyle. Farrell and Milioti also shared a backstage hug, which fans widely circulated online. Many highlighted it as a genuine show of support between the two Penguin co-stars.
