Community invited to ‘Drug Take Back Day’ events to dispose of unused, expired medications in Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with Mayo Clinic and UF Health, will participate in two “Prescription Drug Take Back Day” events Saturday.

This event is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, a nationwide effort to give people the opportunity to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs safely.

There will be two community drop locations in Jacksonville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27:

Mayo Clinic located at 4500 San Pablo Road South UF Health North located at 15255 Max Leggett Parkway

At these locations, residents can turn in prescription drugs, schedule II-V controlled substances, and non-controlled drugs.

Please note that these items will not be accepted:

Illegal (schedule I) drugs Needles, syringes Medical devices, batteries Aerosol cans, inhalers Chemicals Mercury-containing devices Radioactive drugs Liquid chemotherapy drugs

People who can’t attend Saturday’s event can drop off unused prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications at the public entrance of the police headquarters off Forsyth Street in downtown Jacksonville (Police Memorial Building at 501 East Bay Street). The drop box is accessible from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
