Having spent a month and a half in theaters worldwide, Project Hail Mary passed two massive box-office milestones in its sixth weekend of release. It passed the $300 million mark domestically and the $600 million mark worldwide, against a reported budget of more than $200 million. The sci-fi spectacle is the highest-grossing live-action Hollywood film of the year, and is likely to pass at least a couple more box-office milestones before the end of its run. The movie has benefited greatly from near-unanimous praise from critics and audiences alike. It has also enjoyed a rare event-movie status, which is critical to theatrical success these days. This sets the movie up for Oscar attention in a few months' time, when it will compete with Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three for the slot typically reserved for tentpoles.
